Alarm goes off shortly after locking with key fob

Post by LBound »

Hi,

Recently bought an 05 MR2, it's an absolute joy to drive and is in really good nick.

However, the alarm seems to go off on it after a couple of mins if I lock it with the butons on the fob.

Unlocking it with the fob then locking each door manually with the key seems to prevent this from happening.

Any ideas or things I can check?

Thanks

It’s likely the prox sensor for the alarm that’s in the Center console iirc. The car likely has the oe optional vip rs3200 alarm.

May help by resetting or unplugging the proximity sensor. I got false triggers with the top up on windy days or rain.

Well it's only taken me the best part of two years but I decided to actually try and sort it.

I went through the TVSS IV-S setting guide and checked all the door sensors, all were good. The radar didn't seem to set off the test mode lights.

Long story short, the tape on the back of the radar had lost its stickiness so it wasn't held in place. It's been stuck down again with some padded double sided tape. I also readjusted the sensitivity (it's now at around 50%) and it all seems to be sorted.

Doesn't randomly go off, but does if you stick a hand through an open window!
