Building a 3sge out of a 3sfe block
Hello all.
My understanding is that you could build a 3sge around an old 3sfe engine block.
Is this as doable as I'm thinking?
I'm happy to build the engine myself over a couple of years.
Is there a detiled list of auxilieries needed for a 3s ge or are they largely transferable from a 3s fe.
Any information you can provide would be great.
Thanks in advance
Joe

Re: Building a 3sge out of a 3sfe block
I'd ask why ?
Much easier and almost certainly cheaper to buy a 2nd 3S-GE engine and overhaul it, than to start with a 3S-FE block and buy everything you would need to convert it, assuming the 3S-FE block is the same as a 3S-GE block in the first place.
Can't say I've come across any info on such a conversion on here or any of the other MR2 sites I frequent
that's not to say it's not out there, it may well be and I just haven't seen it

Re: Building a 3sge out of a 3sfe block
Just cause I really want to build an Engine from the block up with forged all the things and uprated cams etc
. Wanna dream high reving n/a and it seems the blocks are the same. According to information I've found anyway. I'll try to link the source if people want.
But just because my source says they're the same block doesn't mean all the holes are in the right places and such for attatching all the 3s-ge gubbins, I guess. Something I'll find out along the way.
I will, however, be buying a running 3s-ge and maybe will breath a little more life in to that with uprated cams. Someone on a facebook mr2 group told me that'sd be good for 170+ bhp which is my more short term aim.

Re: Building a 3sge out of a 3sfe block
Mr T & Yamaha did a pretty good job of getting the most from the 3S-GE in the first place, getting any more isn't easy and is expensive.
It's been discussed many times over years on all the MR2 forums, a quick search found these 2 on here https://mr2oc.co.uk/forum/topic.html?p=1677052#p1677052 and https://mr2oc.co.uk/forum/topic.html?t=162042&start=14 more searches will find more.
Try imoc.co.uk and mr2oc.com as well for more info, I.M.O. the general concenus is that it's not worth the effort, either fit a 3S-GTE or if you want to stay N/A fit a V6.
A friend of mine did supercharge his FE, but wasn't impressed with the gains, he ended up converting to a supercharged V6 which he still has
Having said that, if you want to try go for it
but I suspect you may find there isn't much good reliable information on this route to be found.
