Can't find new abs sensor - 1996 sw20
Hello
I need a right/driver side rear abs sensor for 1996 sw20 (I think rev4?)
Non of my local motor factors can get me a new right/driver side rear abs sensor. They could give me the part number - 89545-17010.
I've checked online and can't find one anywhere, anyone any ideas?
Messaged j-spec who might have one but for sensors I'd prefer new so no hassle down the line.
Seen some threads on here around altering brackets and rings and using lexus is200 parts but again would be last resort, I'd likely chance a second hand one before doing all that work.
Any feedback appropriated

Your pretty unlikely to find a new sensor, they have been NLA for a few years now and you'll need a lot of luck in finding a good second hand one Many have tried and failed but you may be lucky if you wait long enough. Hence why most go down the lexus sensor route, it's not a particularly hard job and works well https://mr2oc.co.uk/know-your-2/mk2/mk2 ... ensor.html
Re: Can't find new abs sensor - 1996 sw20
Cheers greatly appreciated!
Great thread didn't see that one but is definitely detailed step by step.
Are the abs rings the same on a is200 and mr2? As in after replacing do you know if the abs actually still works?
Assume I can do this on just one wheel or need to replace all at once?
Just going to solder mine for now I think but will likely have to deal with this at some point, sorry for all the questions aha

AFAIK
You only need to change the sensor and the ABS works as normal (wouldn't be much point in doing the change if it didn't )
PM Brian (https://mr2oc.co.uk/forum/members/36455.html) and ask him, he wrote the How To after fitting them on his car

Put is200 sensor in, I just filled the stub and replugged it. Is fairly simple cheers.
Have to laugh though when looking to make sure I didn't put the abs light on I don't see an abs light on the dash so I guess previous owner removed the bulb or did something hooky.
Hopefully MOT man doesn't notice

Thanks for the feedback are you going to check out the abs light ? Otherwise how do you know if it's working ?
Re: Can't find new abs sensor - 1996 sw20
Sorry forgot to get back.
Abs working fine, crude way of testing but went down a quiet road and slammed the brakes and felt/heard abs kicking in and didn't pull to one side so passes in my book.
Previous owner likely removed the bulb or something.
Did notice with Google maps the speedo is roughly 10mph fast. I know speedos or maps aren't 100% accurate but that seems like alot. Not sure if speed is done via abs sensors or if there is a speed sensor. Not a big deal just something I noticed.

Good to know your ABS is working with the Lexus sensor
Speedo is driven by a mechanical cable on early cars and later ones have an electronic speed sensor on the gearbox, yours will be sensor driven.
GPS is normally more accurate than your speedo, although there may be a slight lag involved.

The UK law is based on the EU standard, with some minor changes. A speedo must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph.
So if your true speed is 40mph, your speedo could legally be reading up to 50.25mph but never less than 40mph. Or to put it another way, if your speedo is reading 50mph, you won’t be doing more than 50mph but it’s possible you might actually only be travelling at 40mph.

I see that Brian, good man
Another success for your very useful article and another confirmation (not that I need any) of the usefulness of KY2 and Forums in general

I know what you mean, I occasionally lurk around some of the FB groups, spend most of my time shaking my head at some of the questions and replies, the misinformation is unbelievable
