Engine bay cooling fan light problems
hello everyone, its my first time posting on this forum as i am looking for advise regarding the engine bay cooling fan. the warning light has appeared on my dash. I have have plugged 12v into the fan and it runs fine when power is put directly too it so I know the fan itself is working fine. I have taken the black cooling fan ecu out of the boot and had a look at it, from inspection it seems fine but i have no way of testing it. the 20A relay in the engine compartment is working correctly as I have tested it. and when I unplug the temp sensor from the engine bay lid the fan does not come on. I'm super stumped with this, does anyone know how I can further diagnose or solve this?

Re: Engine bay cooling fan light problems
Hi pal. The engine bay fan light comes on when the engine bay temp sensor detects high temps in the engine bay and the fan is not spinning. If you have the cat temp warning light on as well then that can be the alternator not charging. I have no idea why these come on with a faulty alternator but they do.
But if you only have the fan light. You need to check the wiring to fan isn’t damaged and if you want another fan controller I can post one out as I have a few that are no use to me. But first check the wires to the fan haven’t rubbed through against the side of the engine bay

ok thank you, i dont have any other lights on the dash. how common is it for the cooling fan ecu to go wrong? where does the power for the fan come from as it seems to disappear into the plastic in the engine bay?

Well if its only that light it not alternator related.
I attached a couple of pics. Might be of use yo see if your readings match
You will need to check continuity from the fan plug and the pins on the ecu connector. Also if you have an after market fan fitted it won't work if it draws more power than the stock fan
