Hi. Newbie could use some advice please

So after thinking about it for a while I'm taking the plunge and looking to get a Mk 3. I've had a look at one (partly to make sure I fit - I do!) and to have a good look and feel of it. Tbh it was an overpriced wreck from a back street dealer. My initial budget is around £2.5k. I've seen quite a few online and all seem to have some issues having looked at MOT histories. I've come down to two at the moment but I feel a bit unsure of what is normal for the age. The home screen blurb said there might be members who could look over potential purchases. If this is a real thing I'd be very happy to pay someone to look and give me a little reassurance. One is in Staffs and the other in Norfolk. I'm nowhere near either (Oxford) so any advice appreciated. Happy to be DM'd. Thanks (sorry for the long post!).
