someone i know got a mr2 mk3, but requires a replacement roof

i've been looking online for him and found a few website

http://www.europeantrimming.co.uk

but it seem loads cheaper to import e.g.

https://www.convertibletopguys.com

i can fit it myself, as i taken off the current one and refitted with him, is it worth importing a new roof or better places to buy a new roof from?

The people on http://www.mr2roc.org should be able to steer you in the right direction unless one of the knowledgable MK3 people on here don't pipe up first :th:

There is a guy based in Swansea whom does a drive in/drive out mohair roof for £300 and good reports too,I think his name is Jack Smith but if further details are required I can find them for you.

I needed the drain bags and gutter section replacement which meant roof off, had it done in Leeds by Adams Autos while I waited for 200 pounds...
His number is 07561385291

Put Swansea into the forum search and you get https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forum/42/168338.html link in that thread leads to https://swansea.cylex-uk.co.uk/company/ ... 38831.html

Does anyone know if this firm is still going? Their Facebook page hasn’t been updated for quite a few years. My roof is on the way out and I want a replacement before it finally tears at an inconvenient moment!

Pretty sure they're not mohair. Still decent though considering the price and all soft top car forums rave about him. Andy

He's definitely still going and his roofs are very good for the money.
Around £350 now (the next cheapest I believe is around £600 for the same type).

It's not mohair, but definitely better than the vinyl that Toyota provided. It's very similar to mohair and IMHO keeps its shape and colour (my other car had it done 6 years ago and still looked good as new - never really treated it and it lives outside).

The biggest problem with Raymond (that's the guy that now runs the firm - Jack Smith was his Father in Law), is lead time. There's only 1 of him (and his son). Because he does MX5s, Z3s, S2000s and MR2s, he has a 6-8 month lead time.

If yours is on the way out, call him now and get it booked in. You might be lucky and get it in before the end of the year.

He does 4-5 colours. Red, Blue, Black, Dark Green and Grey. Other colours (and types) on request. He will do Mohair, but I believe it's about £100 more (Cheapest mohair is around £900+).

If your car is "show", then he's probably not for you. The roofs are absolutely great, but they're not showroom quality finish if you're a perfectionist. You'll need to shell out the £900+ for that.

Hi All,

I have just bought a MK3 Red edition, as we used to have one years ago before writing it off in the ice. It's great to be back on the game, and she'll in lovely condition. Except the roof.

Do you know if it is possible to get the OEM covering, as the colour matching is important on this model.

Jack Smiths does a red fabric material that looks similar to oem colour though not sure exactly how close they are. It certainly never bothered me when I had my red edition one replaced by them.

The only other option would be to try to get an old roof from someone like J spec.
