MR2 wont rev above 2K RPM and hesitates when accelerating

Hi all, looking for some help , I Have a 1997 SW20 and for a couple months i have this unique problem where it hesitates to accelerate , however if i clutch in , i can rev above it . when ive been driving / been stationary for sometime the engine refuses to rev above 2K RPM . what im confused about is that when i switch it off and instantly switch it back on it "fixes" itself and i can rev above 2k again. after a while if full throttle in neutral it stalls. It seems to be something heating up and losing its conductivity ?
recently its only gotten worse , i could get away with short trips but now its completely undrivable
I have swapped the TPS and the ECU is fine , im just getting so confused and frustrated as ive been waiting for 2 years to drive it and i cannot miss this summer
Any help would be greatly appreciated :)

Have you checked for stored fault codes ?
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour
