need suspension, what should i do?

Post by Crewdy »

Just bought my first mr2, i love it, but it could
Be described as tired and needs love including a suspension refresh.

Question is shocks or coilovers?

Doing some quick head maths, shocks and springs all round is getting awfully close to coilover money. Or am i doing my maths wrong and forgetting something?

I intend to use the car lots and take it to the track every now and then but i’m not wanting to make a track only stripped out machine. Oem + handling would be great

Will coilovers be too harsh for day to day?

Are they a marked improvement over just new shocks and lowered springs, maybe the tein ones?

Are shocks and springs all round actually getting close to the cost of coilovers (1k ish).

Be gentle. I’m new 😉

Hi well at least with Coil overs you can adjust them

The best set up I had was on my white 2, rev2 turbo black billies with 40mm lowering springs, should never have let them go when I broke it

I have yellow billies with lowered spring but the rate is too high for road use

As i say with Coilovers you can have settings fro road & track ??

Personally, I'd stick with OEM, there was nothing wrong with the MK3's ride or handling out of the box as Mr T built it, the MK3 is well regarded for handling ;)
Black is not a colour ! .... Its the absence of colour

Ok, thanks for the advice. I was looking at kyb shocks and tein lowering springs to start with. With the boots being shot i’ll price up the works and go from there. If I am getting close to 1k though I think i will consider some bc coilovers.

Really chuffed with my 2, it’s a bit rough but i was laughing all the way back from the buyers even thought the front tyres are 10 years old and the roof has a built in cloud watching panel! Even knackered it drives super fun
