Hey all, my splash guard came off the other day, I am considering not replacing the damaged one as it doesn't seem to do very much. Has anyone else had this issue or does anyone advise against it?

I too wondered about this as 2 of mine corroded and fell off .
I see that the reply has been 'moved to correct forum' but where ?
I'm new to the club so not sure how to find it

I take it you mean the rear most under engine cover? (Often called "the nappy").

If so, plenty of people have taken them off and I have never heard of any actual problems caused by doing this. It may not be the best for aerodynamics though as the bottom rear of the bumper could be acting as an airbrake but hard to say and I never noticed any difference running without.

Many people use zipties to replace the corroded front fittings and just cut them off when they want to take it off if you do want to keep it.

Just realised I misread original post.
Yes I think he meant the plastic engine guard whereas I meant the splash shields around the back of the wheel hubs and discs.
I'm surprised my garage didn't mention this when they replaced the wheel bearing hub as I've since found out you need to take the hub off to fit a new one so it makes sense to do it at the same time.
So should rusted/ missing ones be replaced ?
A bit concerned as I know I'm missing two.

I just pulled off the rusty bits of my stone guards (or whatever the correct name is) when they got so bad that they could be moved easily.

Its a big job to change them so I am certainly not alone in having bits of mine missing. As long as nothing is rubbing you should be OK.

It was the rubbing that drew my attention to the problem .Driving along then almighty grating sound- cover rubbing against disc !
I was concerned incase debris etc. would find its way into bearings or brake calipers.
Makes you wonder if they were necessary in the first place.

I guess the risk of a stone getting between pad and disc is lessened slightly with them on and car makers dont usually put stuff on their cars for no reason.

Its usually the top edge that rots first so the bit thats left still provides some protection. I would change mine but only when doing the hubs.
