Won't run/Stops when rev'd

Well here's the story a beautiful sunny sunday evening and cruising down the local ports when my 2 cunks out in traffic. Didn't think much of it started it again and continued on and there's so much traffic cause everyone and there dog is down on a sunday when the suns out. Got another few meters and again out it goes. Started it again but now the needles flickering pretty bad and to keep it going I had to rev it pretty hard which made me look like the average civic driver in my area :laughing but it was no laughing matter cause it was definitely not the place to break down. Managed to get it to a car park and got the gf's parents to tow it to their house where its been sitting.
Tried it yesterday again and started first time no problems left it alone till it got up to temp a bit. Took it up and down the drive a few times no problems. Decided to rev it maybe up to 4000-4500rpm and that's where it started chugging and coughing until it was going to die so I just turned it off.
I recently got it serviced oil, filters, plugs and distributor cap/rotor arm about three weeks ago but it's been running fine this last three weeks. I've always suspected I have had a weak fuel pump cause I haven't been able to reach my redline falling just 750 short of it. I think it could be a fuelling issue maybe even the fuel pressure relay/sender thingy. I used NGK BKR6EIX but aren't they pre-gapped to the specifications needed cause they would of gave me problems before now?
What does anybody think anyone seen the same problem?
Any thoughts welcome :)

I bought another Rev 3 N/A that seems to have a similar problem dude. Was initially going to be a donor car, but it's way too good to do that to. Would be better to tidy and fix up nicely... but... I have the same issue, along with droplinks.

I'll upload a vid. I'm not a mechanic and hoping someone will come on and say check A, B, C...

I'm thinking throttle body/intake manifold? I haven't serviced it yet, but I'm planning to do the dist. cap, rotor arm, sparks (if they need it) oil & filter and fuel filter (once I get a nice long extension bar)

If that doesn't work, it'll be whipped off to Luke & Nick at Pacific Works...

Darius - That video sounds like a seized bearing or similar. I'd say that needs attention ASAP. My only advice would be "find the source of that noise".

Band!t - which needles where flickering? Did it still struggle once it dropped below 4,000rpm?

Cheers; I have to say, that sound was pretty disconcerting at the time, but has not made it since? (Nor was making it before; was just making it, sitting at idle for those 5-10 mins I had it running.

(Do you mean alternator bearing...?)

Could be, or a pulley, or something in the clutch. Best to have it looked over soonest in any case.

Does it still stall now that the noise is gone?

Yep, still does it. I drove it today to work and back (an hour each side) when revs are dropping, it seems to pause for a fraction of a second around 1500rpm before continuing to drop.

Had a proper look under the hood and realised there's lots I need to look at. Along with your advice, I've parked this up at the back of the drive and gone back to my trusty Astra until I get it looked at.

Clutch could be a very good call; there's a slight, but noticable rumble when idling that disappears when I disengage (press down?) the clutch pedal and it might be my imagination. Gonna be a busy week next week with this!

Sorry Bandit, seem to have hijacked this :/ Once I have got under mine and had a good poke around, will let you know what I've found and if any changes have helped the idle/rev issue. Is your car running rough at all? Mine doesn't exactly idle smoothly.

There's nothing unusual about a little noise with the clutch released (not pressed down) as the gearbox input shaft starts spinning even in neutral. With the clutch depressed they all stop moving quite quickly and silence reigns.

Glad you have some leads now anyway. Always worth getting another member to take a look at it if possible as they can tell you if noises / behaviour are "normal".
