Front strut for coilover swop

Post by rafadodd » 16/02/18 20:41

Hi all if my complete strut is rusty and worn is it just a matter of replacing it with a coilover set as I can get a set of coilover cheaper than what it would cost me to replace standard suspension etc.
I am not using it on tracks but just s cost thing.

if you do go coilovers, dont go for cheap ones. I did and they were not good enough. cost me again to get BCs which have been V good.
Try looking at TCB parts there suspension legs are pretty cheap.

had some of their turbo struts as intermediate ones between old and the coilovers. v good

As said above for less than BC coilovers you can refresh your suspension.
Have a look at the top of the strut bodies to see if there is a nut (circular flange with 2 flats), if you have them the struts can be fitted with new inserts from tcbparts.
A set of 4 dust boots from mr2 Ben and some new kyb top mounts from eBay. As for surface rust a quick rub down and spray with hamerite smooth and the struts and springs will look good.
If you're springs are sagged them new oem from tcbparts or apex -30mm work great with fresh shocks.
Can you do the work yourself? If so just one day will transform the handling.
