Suspect immobilizer/wiring issues

Post by Carlstone13 » 05/08/18 21:02

Hey all! New to this so hopefully I haven't done anything wrong!

Ive got myself a '91 rev1 NA as a bit of a project, its a non start that i know has recently started and run just fine.

So symptom wise, headlights/full beam, taillights, interior door lights, dome lights, some of the dashboard lights (battery and door open warning) guages
and headlight motors work.
Indicators, fogs, windows, starter motor, fuel pump, blower motor, electric mirrors, central locking and basically everything else does not...

There is no sound of fuel pump priming, car wont crank, it appears to have a really badly installed aftermarket alarm/immobilizer behind the carpet behind the NS (passenger) seat which has just been twist and taped into the loom. Removing these connections changes none of the symptoms.

Im considering a whole nee body loom (I already have most of the interior out anyway) but honestly it seems to me to be too many issues to be caused by just that alarm. All the wiring i can see and inspect seems fine. All relevant fuses and relays are ok

A little about me, Im an about to be qualified JLR tech, so I have a decent knowledge of mechanics, This is not my first project but it is my first MR2 and my most modern project (I have had a few Renault 5's and Minis in the past, still have my 5 GTX)

Any help whatsoever is welcomed! Thanks in advance :)

hi and welcome
know your 2 and BGB download will be your friend here I think

you could bridge FP1 and + in diagnostics port, this will get the fuel pump running to see if that helps.

you dont say if it cranks, got spark etc

focus on one thing and work through it. dont try and rectify everything in one go

I did mention but it doesn't crank at all, hopefully I'll be able to get some more time into it today.
Hoping i can get it to start at some point, then i can work on the other electrical gremlins. So first port of call is getting it to turn over unless anyone has any suggestions!

sounds like you got fuses blown... just read again and can see no crank.
if you have some lights on dash then hidden fusable link is ok as that is the main feed off the battter.
next port of call is the fuse box in the frunk, passenger side wing.
there are 5 fusable links
discussed similar on this thread

you have the htr ......am1 .......am2.....alt......abs fuse links to the individual ccts in the caryou can isolate each to find out which cct is causing the issue.

120amp hidden fuse link

Thank you, I'll have a look through those and update this next time I work on the car!
