Re: Replacement gear stick unit parts

The must probable cause is a lack of grease or old and hard grease in the base of the gearstick unit. I'd just unbolt the whole thing from the top of the tunnel, take it apart, clean it and reassemble with a little new grease on all the working surfaces and it will probably be fine.

Re: Mr2 Ben sills?

I was lucky because I had good inner sills, so just needed outers and the bit where the foam rots them all. Now they're painted and filled with waxoil they're better than new. The Mr2 Ben sills are probably 1.5 times as thick as the original metal so should outlast the rest of the car. Well worth do...

Re: Mr2 Ben sills?

I did the sills on my car 18 months ago and found the Mr2 Ben items fitted reasonably well. They were a bit too wide in the door shut but with a bit of blending and paint they don't look too bad: this area is covered by the trim anyway. I've added a couple of pictures of the process to give you an i...

Re: Adjustable drop links?

Obviously, standard length droplinks will work fine: the ARB will operate just fine but with its ends tilted up a bit. The ARB is there to stop the sprung mass of the car rolling and altering the steering geometry, but the droplinks attach to the unsprung mass (wheels and hub) so we're in agreement ...

Re: Adjustable drop links?

Nah, I'm right :-) Think what happens if you jack one wheel up by 40mm - the equivalent of shortening the spring by 40mm? The axle rises up 40mm and the end of the rollbar also goes up 40mm dragged up by the droplink. This moves the bit of the rollbar in the wheelarch from the horizontal to an incli...

Re: Adjustable drop links?

Surely, if you drop the car by 40mm, then the ARB mounts on the underside of the body will be 40mm closer to the ground?? Although the mount-points on the strut won't change in relation to the wheel, they will effectively be 40mm higher than stock requireing a 40mm shortening of the drop-link.

Re: What to replace while engine out of car

As above but how much you do depends on how much you want to spend. As getting the engine out is a pain and some of these jobs are difficult with it in the car I'd err on the side of caution and just to as much as you can. My list: Cam and crank seals - all will be crusty by now. Distributor o-ring ...

Re: IS200 ABS sensors

Apparently the early ones used the same technology so should be electrically compatible but you may need to extend the length of the wire in a 2... They're only £16 or so on ebay so probably worth a punt at that price. New Mr2 ones are eyewateringly expensive!

Re: Water ingress?

...as above but also chack that the pipe from the roof drain is actually in the hole in the top of the drainage pot at the back of the quarterlight - when I got my car one of the pipes was out and I had to weld the floor behind the seat because the water had been pooling there! If the window trim ha...

Re: Coloured strips down side of of car removal

The manual says that the door strips are PVC and are bonded on in the factory. You may be able to re-use them if you remove them but again the manual says you need to buy new ones if they are removed (if you can stil get them??) as they will be deformed. To take them off you need a thin sharp blade ...

Re: Mr2 restoration

I'd second rusty's advice... I've just (nearly) finished a restore of a 'Spares or Repair" Rev3 and its taken more welding and new parts (and money) than I expected to sort it out to anything like a good spec. I think I was lucky in that my car 'only' needed 2 new outer sills and both rear inner whe...

Re: Rear screen surround gasket?

Your car would have originally been fitted with 75959-17040-J0 in blue but you can only get black nowadays so just fit the one you have!
