The first part of the code refers to the 'Series' (Bore, Stroke & Block) of engine block.
All UKDM & JDM MK2's use the same 2.0L '3S' block.
USDM had the '5S' 2.2L block.
Despite the 'common' bottom ends, all the big differences are in the cylinder head design.
The second part of the code refers to the cylinder head and its various attributes:-
'G': 'Performance', Wide-Angle, Twin-Cam. (45degrees or more between intake & exhaust valves)
'F': 'Economy', Narrow-Angle, Twin-Cam. (22degrees between intake & exhaust valves)
'E': Electronic Fuel Injection
'T': Turbocharged
