Rust…
Hello Everyone,
Had quite the shock today… I am currently in the process of removing the engine from my Mk2 Rev3 (N/A) and noticed some rust patches in the wheel arches. I pulled back the boot carpet to find that the dreaded rear pockets were nearly completely destroyed. After poking around, the holes kept opening up and metal crumbling away.
Am I right in assuming this is undoubtedly uneconomical to repair? If anyone has had similar work done, I would be incredibly grateful if you could share your experience and the costs involved. Furthermore, any recommendations for places that could tackle something like this would be greatly appreciated. I am based in the south west (central Dartmoor), it seems as though most of the specialists seem to be based in the midlands or further north, however I may consider transporting my car that far to get the best service.
Thanks all,
Ned

Re: Rust…
Ooof, not a nice surprise. Not many MR2 specialists around anymore. You could try getting some cuts from a breaker but most mk2's suffer in this way so those cuts may cost a pretty penny. I should think a local welder could fabricate something. It's just takes a bit of asking around. Otherwise transport your car to Dan and Lewis at Midlands MR2 and I'm sure they'll be able to help for a fair price. Andy

Yes, he is. In Bexhill-on-Sea. Only 250 miles from Dartmoor.

Re: Rust…
Any local body repair shop "should" be able to fix that, check reviews for the garage you intend to use and try to get a quote that they are willing to stick to.
