mr2 mark III

Post by covkid69 »

i have recently bought a 02 plate mr2 but since i've had it i've broken down 3 times.

at the moment it's in my local toyota dealer and they've now had it a week and can't find what is wrong with it.

it has a semi auto gearbox and you change gear with buttons on the steering wheel.

what happens when it breaks down is the the display on the dash which shows what gear you are in vanishes and you can't select any gears.

the red transmission light on the dash comes on and also the ecu light.

the weird thing is that after a while everything works fine and it drives ok.

like i said toyota are struggling to find out what the problem is so if anyone has any idea's i'd be very grateful

cheers

First thing I'd do is plug it into my OBDII reader and see what that shows...then give it a 'wiggle' test...

Sounds like a faulty sensor or connection related to the gearbox side of things.

toyota have plugged into the ecu and noted the errors but they are saying that it doesn't tell them what is wrong and that it just points them in the general direction.

i'm thinking it can't be anything too drastic as like i said it works and drives fine after it's been standing for a while

You best chance is to ask on ROC or at least have a search on there. Theres also Spyderchat, there is a SMT subforum under the maintence forum.
