turbo conversion costing

Hi guys, interested in converting my n/a to a tubby,
Not set up at all to do it myself so I was wondering if there was a place that would supply and fit the turbo engine? And how much it would cost?

Just for comparison, I spent:

£850 on conversion labour
£1,300 on full Rev 3 engine package including gearbox, looms, driveshafts, air filter etc
£1,500 on goodies like fuel pump, belt kit, oil pump, intercooler, boost controller, exhaust, dizzy, water pump, dump valve, alloy rad, some others bits I've forgotten about

You don't have to buy the goodies and a Rev 1/2 conversion will cost less, but I'm using mine as a daily driver and love it. Doesn't bat an eyelid about getting me anywhere very quickly

Also got some money back for the old engine and parts that knocked off £500 from the above list.

Whoever you choose to do this make sure they have actually done the conversion before and really do know what they’re doing.

I strongly recommend getting someone as close to home as possible as well.

If you’re getting this done then please go all out and make sure you get it done once and done right!

I got badly burned getting my turbo conversion done and it cost me dearly in time, cash and heartache to get it all put right in the end.

Scott and Danny at Donzlinz might be worth speaking to actually if you can get a full rear clip. I’d take time and get all the goodies like intercooler, air filter, boost controller, new clutch, gear cables etc sourced and fitted before you do the swap as well.

Another place worth asking would be Hypertech in Bonnyrigg although they’re always booked months in advance.

Shop around, speak to others that have had it done and get it done as locally as possible.

When they’re running right they’re so worth it.

These cars are now really too old to bother doing conversions on. You need to keep it and run it years to get your money back, its easier now to just sell what you have and buy another newer car. I don't see many of the MR2's on the road over here now and we don't have any of the bodywork corrosion issues you have in the UK, mine still looks like new underneath with all the steel bars rust free. Happy to be back in a garage, these cars do not like being left outside.
