Slow acceleration in 5th gear
I have a rev 4 NA and after doing some work on the car the acceleration in 5th gear seems slower than before. I'm not sure if I'm just imagining it so could someone confirm if these numbers seem right? If i'm doing ~60mph @ about 2750 rpm in 5th gear and I put my food down it takes around 7 seconds to reach 70.
Obviously 5th isnt the optimum gear for acceleration at 60 but its more that it feels slower than before. The car drives fine throughout all the other gears but 5th seems a little sluggish.
Thanks.

Re: Slow acceleration in 5th gear
3sge ACIC does not kick in until 3500rpm so you will always be a tad sluggish below that. the Rev4/5 with emissions suffer more than the Rev3 3sge.
but do all the obvious like check for sticking brakes sliders / pistons, tyre pressures etc as these would slow down any performance.
if they are all good then just drop down 1 or 2 gears

Re: Slow acceleration in 5th gear
Thanks for the reply. I thought the power band was around 3k so if its closer to 3.5 then that would definitely make a difference. 7 seconds still seems like a lifetime to go from 60-70 or is this normal considering the gear ratios and 5th only starts pulling much later than that? I have heard that the NA's don't perform great at higher speeds but I just wanted to make sure that these numbers were fairly similar to what others were getting.
I've checked over everything and nothing seems to be wrong. It seems to go fine through the other gears too, its just the top end that seems sluggish.

Re: Slow acceleration in 5th gear
5 th is really an overdrive, the car is geared for over 150 in it. 3rd gear is half the time.
This is heavy car with tall gearing and poor torque. Best over 5ooo revs

Re: Slow acceleration in 5th gear
Thanks Nick, that's kinda the conclusion I'd come to. Glad to know it's working as intended!

Re: Slow acceleration in 5th gear
I used to think the 3s-ge was underpowered when in motorway mode (60-80mph and 5th gear). Best remedy is to change the engine
