Alarm/central locking problems

Post by Vince2604 »

Hi - I’m new to this forum as a full member. I wanted to pick people’s brains on my alarm not working off my key fob. It used to lock and arm the alarm, but it’s stopped recently and I can lock and unlock with the key. But if I open the door the alarm goes off for 30seconds and then stops. I can start the car during the alarm going off and after, but if I stop and take the key out and open the door it then goes off. The light on the console is a solid red. I’ve changed the car battery and also changed the fob battery recently.

All idea how I can get it to work again off the fob, or worst case disable the alarm?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.. I’m even at the point of taking it to a garage locally. I live in Longfield, Kent and again not sure who best to take it to?
Thanks in advance
Vince

Probably best to start your own thread Vince.

I assume that if the car is locked and you press “unlock” on the fob then use the key to unlock and open the door that the alarm doesn’t sound?

Hi - will do on new thread
But in answer to your question - the fob doesn’t lock or unlock. But the light on the fob shines when pressed. The car seems to be armed all the time and I can lock and unlock by using the key in the door and ignition, but as soon as I unlock the door and open it the alarm goes off

So the fob doesn’t even disarm the alarm?

No - the fob has stopped working. I used to have to walk around the car till the fob signal worked. I don’t know where the alarm signal is located.

Ah, given that you’ve already changed the battery it’s probably time to call an auto electrician I’m afraid.

You could always try this KY2 guide to re-pair the key and car…

….but if it was intermittent for a while then that’s probably not it either.
