update:Buying new catalyst from ebay, which one?
Hello all
I got a new exhaust, similar to the one from MR2 Ben, the one with the two back boxes
https://i.ebayimg.com/images/g/c3wAAMXQ ... s-l500.jpg
I need to buy a new catalyst as well, I was wondering which one I should buy from ebay.
My MR2 is a JDM G-limited 1993.
I find some non type approved catalysts that say they fit my car, but that if my car was registered after 2001 it will fail emissions.
My car was registered in 2003. I am a bit confused.
Update: I can find catalysts that are 430mm long and 420mm long. How do I know which one is supposed to fit. The websites cite that both fit all models up to 1994.
I am more confused.
I think I worked out that the registration probably refers to the EURO emissions regulations.
thanks guys

I have the same car (93 JDM G-limited) and it passed MOT here in Northern Ireland last year with no cat installed, just a plain pipe from (sports) manifold to back box. I’m not sure whether our emissions testing is more lenient here.

I got a bit confused when I first read this, was saying 1993 MR2 then the dates of 2001 and 2003 entered the ring. I think you'll find both those cats are the same size, I believe the two sizes are like 320 and 420, 420 is the one you want. I got the cheapest one I could find, probably cost like 60-70 and it went through a MOT no problem.
Just found it, was on cats2u £66.42.

This one (cats2u £66.42) is 425mm long ! Is the length 420-430mm completely irrelevant and they all fit?

I don't disagree, but the one JRD93 got for his car (and fitted) is 425mm !!
this is...somewhat confusing
Re: update:Buying new catalyst from ebay, which one?
You have some wiggle room with the exhaust system so 420, 425 and 430 all will fit most probably. I'm pretty sure I bought that one, I just got under the car in the wet (I hope you're happy I have a wet "censored" now), mine measured 427mm. These aren't high tolerance parts, as long as you don't get the 320mm you'll be okay.

Hahahahaha ... I believe the standard 'repayment a favour' rate is a bag of haribos ?JRD93 wrote: 01/03/23 18:52 You have some wiggle room with the exhaust system so 420, 425 and 430 all will fit most probably. The exhaust hangs on rubber bushes so 5mm isn’t going to make a lot of difference. Sure it’ll fit just fine as long as the bolts align.

Re: update:Buying new catalyst from ebay, which one?
Hey guys
I bought the catalyst JRD93 suggested, turns out my car is an import so I need a different catalyst which is twice the price. But that is not the problem.
The problem is cats2u don't offer a fitting kit with the catalyst ( https://www.cats2u.co.uk/toyota/7432-to ... 90881.html )
Any ideas where to source a fitting kit? Do I need both seals and gaskets or the car only needs gaskets ? Do I need bolts ? None of these come with the catalyst which is quite a bit more expensive as well ( weird huh? )
Any help much appreciated.

AUTODOC has them for a couple of pound each. They are just simple ring gaskets, one each side of the cat.
You will need some m10 bolts and nuts to fit it, hardware store ones are fine.
