5w-40 or 10w-50 depending on use, if driven hard go 10w-50.
Fully synthetic is best and there are plenty to look at here http://www.opieoils.co.uk

Check your oil level by eye on a regular basis. I know so many who were awarded a load of big end knock because they relied on the car to tell them when to do some thing about the oil level.Seanie wrote: and i just want to know what oil to put is as the yellow oil can light with a wobbly line under it has been flickering on and off.

Oilman: I'm currently using Redline 10w30 in mine and have been for quiet some time. Although i haven't had any reason to change would this be ok for a modded forged internal rev3 tubby ?. I choose the Redline after changing from Amsoil as i did some research on the red line oil and found it to help spool my turbo a little bit quicker, Although i have no evidence of this just seat of my pants thing.

It should be ok, what kind of power are you seeing with those internals and also what kind of use does the car get?

Re: Oil - Cold weather selection
A good 5w-40 synthetic would be ideal.
Have a look at Silkolene and Motul.

Re: Oil - Cold weather selection
Im currently using fully synthetic 5w-40 oil. For some reason, my oil temperature gauge reads high at 120c when on motorway drives. When you maintain 100mph + for any say 5mins or more, i have seen smoke in my rear view mirror.
Someone has suggested, i put thicker oil in to prevent this?
I use 5w-40 as it has good circulation when cold.
What oil should i use?

Hi Oilman,
I've an old MGB 8v with an 1860cc re-bore, new pistons, seals, uprated oil pump, fully balanced crank, lightened flywheel, piper cams, uprated gaskets, hardened valve seats, new valves & springs, soon to have new oil cooler & pipes and looking forward to a supercharger next year. What's the best stuff for the winter and the summer as the MGOC recommend a few different types? Car's built for weekend fun with occasional EXTREME use on track/sprint/hillclimbs. Approx 2500-5000 miles year max.
[EDIT]
Oooo - and just another quickie - what yer recommend the mileage/time between changes is for the MR2 and the MGB?
Cheers Oilman,
HM
