How did things go? Did the microswitch solve your problem? I am having the exact same issue
I've ended up buying that switch, but not got it yet. Next month I'll try and remove the old one and clean up the contacts etc if that switch is destroyed, I'll try the replacement.

I'll update when it's done ✔️

Right, update much sooner than I thought. Took off the door card and found the locking micro switch wasn't connected. Plugged it in and my central locking works.

As simple as that lol

Got to love an easy fix, but this is why I’m so OCD about testing things before buying new parts!

I could only find one on that well known auction website, so thought it was worth the risk.

It could fail in the future (given its a common problem) so the next owner at least has a replacement.

I took my door card off this weekend and could see the locking mechanism wanting to engage and disengage when using the central locking on the key (JDM car with aftermarket alarm) but not quite having the power to actually do it. When using the key in the door all is fine though. Is this likely to be the hard to come by and expensive microswitch?

Sounds more like a sticky mechanism if it's trying to move

It's had plenty of WD40 soaked in. I will take it out, give it a clean and grease and report back

You could test the lock/unlock motor with a battery while you have it out, make sure it's moving freely when powered. There's a section in the BGB covering the door locks.

I finally got around to taking the whole mechanism out today and giving things a really good clean. The mechanism now moves nice and freely. However, the switch will still not turn the locking part. I will try the regular used routes and Nengun, does anyone know where or how it could be repaired if not?

Just thought that I would come back and update what happened. Searching turned up no results and I ended up getting a whole door latch mechanism from MRMR2 on eBay and switching out the whole thing, was much cheaper than other options. All working ... for now.

What may have happened is someone WD40’d the lock itself. I got told off by a locksmith for that. Apparently locks need some sort of graphite grease. If the wrong lubricant has been used the old lock may have been sticking?

I tried both mechanisms out of the car and they felt exactly the same resistance wise but that graphite grease is a good point, especially as parts and bits will become harder to find over time.

No, I am afraid that I binned it. After the faff and awkwardness of it I was please to see the back of it. Hindsight is a wonderful thing.
