Just use the one you have. The temp sensor makes no difference. Mines been disconnected for years. Even well before I did the 3.0 V6 turbo conversion. Only time the warning light comes on is if the alternator has failed. But this always brings up the engine bay cooling fan light, the cat temp light and the battery light. Strange why Mr T wired it up that way

The plot thickens. Does the original CAT that was on the car have this temp sensor? I would assume the new cat doesn't come with the sensor and just a threaded hole to place the old sensor into, wondering on the difficulty of removing the old temp sensor.

Looks like the gents before me have answered though. Few options.

1) Install the CAT that you already have
2) Install a decat pipe

Either way, should let the MOT centre know not to check the emissions, they don't always know.

Yes the original cat does have the temp sensor installed. That is why the mechanic decided not to attempt to fit it.

Quick google search indicates the sensor is just to illuminate the dash when the cat gets too hot, basically letting you know when it's fubar'd. I'd install the cat you have and get the cabling for the temp sensor out of the way, if it illuminates your dash might need to bridge the wires.

I remember having to change the cat for my car, ended up buying a new backbox and nearly a downpipe.

Yes, I got a new back box as well. It is a nightmare.

The worst thing is mechanics are like... this is such an old car...why do you want to fix it?
