anyone used the "sunoco synturo 5W50" or the "sunoco synturo racing 10W60" ?

anyone knows if this is a good oil?

it seems very hard to find a good 5w50 or 10w50 over here.

it is for my rev1 NA that is driven very hard and gets up to oil temps between 100°c on regular use and 125°C when flooring it in the twisties.

Don't know anything about it, this is the best 10w-50 we know of

Hi Oilman - thx for all the advice :th: , I have a 1991MR2 TURBO with lots of mods:

FORGED WISECO PISTONS, FORGED RODS, 268 BILLET CAMS. FLOWED HEAD, CUSTOM T61 HYBRID TURBO, CHARGE COOLED, OIL COOLED ETC...
I now use the car as "a daily" @ 0.7 bar...I DO NOT do track and occasionally drive HARD...I generally take time to warm her up before driving. I am situated AWAY from th sea and the TEMP that we are about to experience is between 15 deg celcius and 28 deg celcius .

Out here (South Africa), we have the full range of Castrol, Shell, Mobil . What would you recommend?

Thanks in advance :th:

Can you get Motul?

I would look at something like the Mobil 1 15w-50 out of that lot, dont bother with Castrol 10w-60 what ever you do, its too thick.

Cheers

Oil - Cold weather selection

Post by jimGTS »

hey mr oil man...

i need a oil change soon.

weekend car, driven hard on the odd occasion...(garaged so wont get snowed on)
modded, large turbo, forged engine, 1.3bar on occasions....

it presently has silkolene pro S 5w40, but i have a good 3ltrs left of mobile 1 15w50 somewhere.
should i keep with the silkolene, or just buy a couple of ltrs of mobile 1 15w50 and use that with what i have spare?? id rather not waste £30 werth of mobile 1 if i can help it, but if pro S is better, so be it.
car would still be used all year round...

thanks

The 15w-50 is a bit thick for winter use, I would stick with 5w-40 and use the 15w-50 as a top up if needed.

i only found this thread, so prob not entirely questioning winter use, but all year round use really.

so the pro S is fine to carry on with at 5w40?....even with a car run at 340hp and prob will be closer to 400 early next year?

least the mobil 1 can still get some use so thats good.
