Advice to get my active system working

Post by Gizmo_101 »

Hey everyone , I've been looking through quite a lot of the forums on here and the "wiring issue dome fuse" topic was very helpful if I need to rewire anything , but I still have just a couple of bits I'm not sure on, so I have the original subs with the amps still from what I could see I still have front speakers as well (wasn't enough space to open the door fully and start taking the door card off for a proper look) but the rear speakers are aftermarket (alpine) , now my question is, I have a connecting block next to both rear speakers but nothing to connect them to?? And at the moment the alpine speakers are the only ones that work as there wired into the back of the head unit.... So how do I go about connecting them up so I can get all the speakers working as they should ?!
I hope I haven't confused anything with my big essay ?!
Thank you for your help in advance

That plug with yellow & back wires is for the stock rear speaker.

Info & wiring diagrams here: https://www.mr2oc.co.uk/forum/43/135146.html

Looks like your active system has been by-passed but depends where the new speaker wires go to.

thanks for the quick reply stu :) from what i saw today and what i remember when i put a head unit in it a few months ago (yes ive waited this long to fix it, as some sound at the time was better than none at all haha) the wires run from those two rear speakers along under the carpet by the doors around the footwell and into part of the wiring loom for the head unit by crimps/spades i think it was, i do have a picture some where on my phone ill have a look and upload in a few minutes

Thanks again Stu

Oh dear another hacked to death system.
Getting the active system working (so long as only wire behind the head unit are chopped) is fairly simple. It just involves wiring an ISO lead to the loom wires using the the wiring diagram.

That or don't bother and just run new wires for all the speakers via an amp. The stock speakers are not up to modern standards and the amps are fairly weak so nothing really to be gained over a newer system.

Just had a read through your topic stu I'll have a look in a minture when I go out to the car ..... I'm presuming the wires and stuff are going to be the same even though your explaining it on a rev3 and mine is a rev2 ?? And pbmr2 I may go down your route If I can't sus it out , would it be easy enough to that then? Start from scratch as such ? Never don't it before but can't imagine it will be too difficult can it??

blue one is for the power aerial isn't it?

the aerial not moving will only mean that the reception will be poor, won't stop it from working. Mine is unplugged and makes no difference, but I only listen to MP3s.

edit:
on seconds thoughts, think the aerial wire is pink.. or is it blue.. one or the other lol.

plus rewiring it back to the stock system is the easiest way round, providing only the wires behind the headunit are chopped. at least then you can plug different headunits in and it should all just work.

also this may help.

Any suggestions as to why these wires join together and are they suppose to?! Also I can't see the purple wire that connects from the passenger footwell into the harness behind the stereo??
