yup, the missis was sat on her drive and the rear screen just shattered, heard a big bang, i instantly thought firework.. but we looked about and couldnt find anything.
any one else know of the rear screen just shattering.?

ive never heard of it happening with a car window, but glass is fiarly prone to random breakings, anything from a resonant frequency to just a hairline crack and a tempreture change can do it really, but really never heard about it on car windows!

yea it is a bit strange, ill get her to look for some firework evidence tomorrow when she gets up..
im going to call autoglass in the morning and see how much its going to cost for a new screen..
im gutted for her, shes not had the car long.

Just a thought - Are all the hard-top latches secured correctly? If one is not properly engaged it could cause a twisting force across the screen?

yea its the MK3, sorry
i phoned autoglass up and they wanted £819 for a new glass, but they were doing a deal where i could get it for £460.

not sure if she has windscreen cover on her policy.

not as nice, but have a look at getting one made is perspex got to be way cheaper.
