Breakers in Scotland, new front bumper?

Post by jimmsly »

Hi all,

well, I managed to hit the one remaining patch of ice in the whole of east Scotland yesterday, before all of the snow started today. A little off-road excursion and I'm on the lookout for a new pre-facelift front bumper.

Does anyone know of any jap breakers in Scotland or Northern England that would be likely to be able to help? The ideal would be a colour match - it's the stock red (3P0, from memory) - if anyone knows where I could get my hands on one I'd be much obliged as I'm looking at a silver one on ebay just now and my local bodyworks is quoting £180+VAT for a respray... :crybaby:

Thanks in advance,
James

These guys are based in Govan Glasgow but I'm not sure what they are like to deal with
http://www.japsautoparts.co.uk
Or you could try www.gtschris.com who is based in Newcastle and specialises in breaking Mr2s

Nice to see another person from 'Lithgae. You could try U-Pull it just over the Forth Bridge (think it's in Inverkeithing?)? My little brother got some parts out of there recently -I don't have their number but can probably get it if you can't get it out of the phone book.

Thanks for all your help thus far everyone, that's been great! Unfortunately there's not much left of the one in Leven Mark, but cheers for the heads up. I'll give japs or gtschris a try.

RSTA - if you're from Lithgae you'll probably know exactly where it happened - on the backroad to Dechmont you've got a really steep gully with a humpback bridge at the bottom and big sump scores all over the road. Over the bridge - no issue. Accelerating to go up the hill, hit a patch of ice, lost the back end and went into the banking. Felt a bit silly...

Cheers again all and I'll keep you posted.

James, bad luck -still look back very fondly on my home roads (great driving roads!!), used to know all the bends and twists in that area -but got very lucky a good few times I can tell you! There's a MK3'r I know in the 'brig but he's purely a driver really I don't think he'd be able to help your search. How bad is the damage -I might be down there on Friday afternoon / Saturday morning to see the folks. Not promising anything but if I do end up there I'd gladly help if I can (I have lots of bodyshop stuff spare also if it's a case of repairing a split).

Contact Rogue, Revision.com, I did a trade with them for some pre facelift bumpers for some silver ones, they might have the red one still, dependant on if they want to sell it. What is the damage like on yours?

Might be worth a try.

Hi, just an update to let everyone know I got it sorted. I rang round jap autos, gtschris and local breakers and no one had anything. Then, I had a look on eBay this morning and there's a yard in Sheffield breaking two mkIIIs - and one is a colour match :yahoo:

I should get the new bumper Monday or Tuesday next week - only ended up costing me £150 which I think is fair enogh, the bumper looks in good condition from what I've seen. @RSTA, thanks very much for the offer to come and help; but I should be ok now. The reason I'm changing it rather than fixing the scuff damage is because I managed to burst just about every screw point - I've got repair washers everywhere and it looks a bit of a mess once you lift the bonnet...

If you're in the Sheffield area, both look like they are in fairly good nick (see http://www.cityautosalvage.co.uk/ and click on breakers); but the engine bay on the red one is burnt completely out. However, a word of warning - I phoned up about this car a week ago after stumbling across the site - and the guy said it had been stripped and all of the parts were gone! Probably be best to stick to their eBay auctions or go see for yourself, rather than enquire over the phone.

Just want to say thanks very much to everyone for their help and advice. It's my first problem I've posted on here and I've been delighted with the response - looks like a very friendly forum!

Cheers,
James
