Rear Tyres - Wot, no Yoko's?

Post by SteveJones »

Just getting my alloys refurb'd and need to replace the rear tyres at the same time. They're the standard 225/50/15 and I've previously been pleased with Yokohama's, the current Toyo's have been ok but a bit too 'lively' in the wet for me! I've looked at Tyrereviews and Blackcircles and and now totally confused. The Yoko A022's get great reviews, but no longer available, the Unitoyal Rainsport 2 looks good, but discontinued and the Rainsport 3 isn't available in the 225/50/15 size.

Anyone got any good recommendations (or supplies of the A022/Rainsport 2) ?

I've searched the forum and although there are plenty of tyre threads I guess they need to be kept up to date as the manufacturers seem to discontinue designs more often than I change my underwear

Cheers guys (oh, by the way, it's a Rev5 NA)

It looks like just about everyone is discontinuing 225/50/15. From memory there are Pirelli's in that size, but they're anything but cheap. (Some Ferraris, BMWs used them.)

Damn the fashionistas with their silly big wheels!

More on this in "the other place".

I struggled getting tyres for my rears too. Got supra wheels with 245/45/16 so settled for continentals. When I had 225/50/15 rears when I bough the car it had nexens on it. Do not buy these they're crap! Falken 912 or 914 are great tyres.

I wouldn't say they are great but they are a good budget tyre. I've given up on 15's and gone to 16's as I can get Hankook Evos and T1R's for sensible money, with other options too.

First of all, apologies to the mods for originally posting in the tech section, didn't look hard enough to see a wheels and tyres section, duh!

Secondly, apologies to all for bringing up a question that's been asked many times before. The choice for stock rear alloys is poor, so the Toyo T1Rs it is. The Pirelli P0's are a bit out of my league!

Cheers guys.
