Hi all. Looking through the BGB on fault finding and keep coming across this Sst 09843-18020 tool. Is it worth buying one, or can it be made? Also, how exactly does it work?

Thanks.

Yes its called a short piece of wire.

I actually crimped a couple of those narrow male connectors on the ends of it so it was a perfect fit into the diagnostic box female connectors, but essentially people use a bit of wire or a paper clip.

All you are doing is shorting the two correct test points together. The ECU detects the short and throws the fault codes that are stored in it up on the engine check light.

So it is just a piece of wire? No LED or anything? Am I right in thinking you then just cross reference the blinks on the dash with the codes in the BGB?
